Vintage Aprons

I’d never used an apron until my mom gave me an adorable vintage one a couple years ago. What was I thinking cooking bacon all this time without protection?? Plus, with the miniature floral fabric and tulip pockets, I feel pretty dern cute at the stove these days.

Recently, my great Aunt Dottie (best cook in the family) gave my mom a bunch of her old aprons for a fundraiser — an apron auction. Adorable, vintage, and a family heirloom? Gimme those. I still don’t quite understand how an apron that doesn’t protect your top is worth much, but the skirt aprons are so cute, I’m strategizing how to get away with wearing them as part of an outfit.

They are all so cute! What an awesome thing to get from family. My favorite is the tiny pink one!

I’m pretty sure the pink one really is reversible for spills sans washing. Oh, the 5o’s. So fun.

Another great use for aprons: wear while washing dishes! Apparently I tend to splash a lot, and my coffee bean print apron keeps my shirts dry. :o )

Here I am looking for every excuse to wear aprons, and I hadn’t even thought of that! And, I do a fair bit of splashing. Thanks, Alissa.

Amy: LOVED your video – darling! I think you should have your own syndicated show, with your mom. D

Not that you’re biased, or anything, Diane. ;) I do get all my best qualities from my mom, so that could work!

Reminds me of cooking with my grandma…and makes me wonder where all of her aprons went!

OK now that’s a funny video art apron high point. I’ve seen lots of videos in my day and got to say that was one of the most interesting I have ever seen. A apron in a stove the funny music the fast action all the different aprons and even a Charleston dance. GREAT dare I say Genius.

Cute! Have you been to the site of the lady that has sewing patterns of vintage aprons? Worth looking into, they’re very cool.

She used to sell aprons copied from her grandma’s old aprons but things got to be to much for her and she make the apron patterns into a book. her blog is here at http://dorothyshomegoods.blogspot.com/ with a link to her book. I think she might also have a copy of a 1940′s apron book from the White sewing machine company which you can download for free as a PDF.

This is awesome! I love it! I’ve totally been wanting some aprons lately – with a one year old I find I have WAY more spills than ever and could use an apron for so many different purposes throughout the day – from clothing protection, to easily accessible pockets for storing toys and other goods, to something to wipe up a messy one year old’s face :) I’m totally going to check out that link for apron patterns!
