Cut one point out - all the way through to the center of the circle - then put it back together so it's kind of conical shaped and you have a seven-pointed star. Do the same cutting out two and three points and making progressively narrower cones. Make two sets and line the eight up so the number of points goes 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5.
