My father-in-law made these as a kid, only he was going for an exploding pointy ball. Apparently when you put eight of them together with a button and string, it becomes 3-D. But he couldn’t remember that step, and I sure as heck couldn’t figure it out. I’m just as happy with these!

I think I know how to put them together to a pointy ball! Cut one point out – all the way through to the center of the circle – then put it back together so it’s kind of conical shaped and you have a seven-pointed star. Do the same cutting out two and three points and making progressively narrower cones. Make two sets and line the eight up so the number of points goes 5, 6, 7, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5. String them together through the middles. Voila! Pointed ball! Be certain to add plenty of gratuitous glitter.
