We're in the middle of a bathroom remodel, one of the updates being moving the towel bar from where it lived about 2 feet above the toilet! As for the mystery of the bowl, I can't tell if the design was somehow added... I'm thinking it's not part of the grain, b/c what kind of tree grows like that?? I feel your pain. Is it the wood or the finish that does that? Toilet tanks are indeed a great spot. I was lamenting just last night that the towel bar is hung too low in my bathroom, leaving just about four unobstructed inches below my hand towels - not enough space to store or display anything. *le sigh* I love the dappled appearance of that wood!
